SQL DBA (MS & Oracle) – Dublin – €400-430 per day

Job Purpose

The Company’s technology landscape includes more than 150 primary business applications almost all of which depend upon back end databases. A large number of databases also exist for development and quality assurance purposes. An Pt uses both Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database technologies with the current split being approximately 2:1 respectively. The business applications and databases used comprise both public and internal facing OLTP and OLAP systems with high reliability, performance and security being key concerns. Public facing systems are available through over the counter retail networks as well as phone, web and mobile channels.

Working as part of the DBA Team, reporting to the DBA Team Leader and based in central Dublin, this position has responsibility for the development and maintenance of the Company’s database estate and associated technologies. Ensuring optimal database integrity, security, performance as well as database development and problem solving are all key activities.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

The ideal candidate will have relevant academic and professional training, including attendance and completion of database administration courses. A minimum of seven years technical experience in DBA related functions. The ideal candidate will have a very process driven approach, be a flexible, independent problem solver with good verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to make decisions.

Main Responsibilities of Role

* Build, maintain and support the Company’s database estate to include core database installation, configuration and upgrade as well as implementing and maintaining advanced high availability, security and performance tuning.

* Provide expert database resource to new development projects, participating as a pro-active team member throughout all lifecycle stages from initiation through implementation and post-implementation support.

* Balance the needs of day to day operations and technical support versus project work

* Participate in key periodic operations tasks including high availability and disaster recovery testing, operating system and database patching, database upgrades and migrations, etc.

* Provide comprehensive and clear documentation for all new database builds, redevelopments, enhancements, as well as for standard operational procedures

* Respond to support incidents and requests in a timely and efficient manner

* Participate in on-going development of the Company’s policies, procedures and standards for database builds, administration, backups, security and auditing

* Actively participate in discussions and workshops with other DBA Team members, sharing knowledge and experience, so as to continue providing a high quality of service while striving for continuous improvement

Essential Candidate Requirements

  • Third Level Degree in IT, Comouter Science or Appropriate Equivilant
  • * Strong technical knowledge of Oracle databases and associated technologies
  • * Strong technical knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server databases and associated technologies
  • * Good technical knowledge of Microsoft SQL Azure environment
  • * Good technical knowledge of Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control
  • * Knowledge of Oracle Exadata a distinct advantage
  • * Knowledge of Oracle GoldenGate an advantage
  • * Good knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Oracle Linux operating systems
  • * Experience as a DBA working in medium to large organisations supporting a varied catalogue of mission critical databases supporting enterprise scale application systems
  • * Knowledge of industry standards such as ISO 27001 and PCI DSS an advantage
